The new  trustees of Cruden Bay Harbour are 3 serving Committee members from Cruden Bay Community Association. They are Association chairperson Hugh McIntyre, vice chairperson Gordon Mackay and committee member Peter Abenheimer. The aforementioned committee members are all long standing members of the Community Association and from their working lives bring a wide and varied skill set  which in the past has proven beneficial in assisting facilitate many significant projects in and around the village.

Hugh McIntyre is the Community Association Chairperson has lived in the village for 25 years and has always played an active role in village life. Apart from his lengthy service in the Community Association, Hugh has also been the captain of the Cruden Bay Boys Brigade and was one of the key organisers of the local pressure group DRACULA who successfully lobbied against the land fill dump which was proposed for the former Brick and Tile Works. At work, Hugh is a Chartered Civil Engineer and for many years was involved in the design and management of harbour construction from Stonehaven to Peterhead and major oil installations worldwide He is now involved at the most senior level of management within a major oil company with offices in Aberdeen and around the world. Hugh’s day job sees him involved in complex management processes and negotiations and is well known for his steady hand in managing change and is able and willing to help facilitate this latest important phase in the development of Cruden Bay Harbour

 

Gordon Mackay has lived in Cruden Bay since 1983 and has served on the Community Association since the early 90’s. He was chair person of Peterhead Academy for 5 years and a founder member and first chair person of Port Errol School Board when it was reformed a number of years ago. Gordon was the managing Director of an office equipment company based in Aberdeen and retired from that business a couple of years ago. Gordon has been a committed fund raiser for various worthy causes over the years and amongst other things captained to victory the award for most creative raft design at the Ythan Raft Race over 10 consecutive years.

Gordon, who studied graphic design before getting involved in business, has maintained and developed his interest in design over the years. Amongst other things he was heavily involved in the design and production of the Cruden Bay leaflets which were, and still are, used to promote the village as a key tourist attraction in North East Buchan. More recently his design and marketing projects have been in the area of website design and he currently manages around 20 self built websites for a variety of local organisations and charities, amongst the foremost of these being the Cruden Bay Community website.

Gordon believes his experience in business and his ability to think creatively may be useful skills in helping reshape the new look harbour management body.

 

Peter Abenheimer has also been a stalwart of the Community Association over the best part of 20 years. A founder member of the Cruden Bay Drama Group and Blue Toon Theatre Company Peter has helped produce a wide variety of dramatic performance from plays to panto’s, from Port Erroll to Peterhead!

Peter has always been heavily involved in village life and has served as chairman on the Village Hall management committee for 15 years, Peter was also a prime mover in the DRACULA pressure group which stood against the plans for a dump o our doorstep. Peter has also been heavily involved in fund raising over the years and is another veteran of the Ythan Raft Race campaign.

His fund raising activities have helped him develop an extensive knowledge and useful experience in dealing with grant awarding bodies, he has developed good contacts with Aberdeenshire Council in this role.

Peter is a director of his own management consultancy currently contracted to oil major as senior quality assurance consultant on major construction projects His work involves processes and procedures which should of benefit in restructuring of the new Harbour management body.

 

The new Harbour Trustees are not boat owners or harbour users and have no vested interested in the harbour other than helping in the important re-structuring programme.

 

They will assist in every way to facilitate in the forming of the new Management Board and look forward to a period of co-operation and positive action from all parties who are interested in the preservation of this vital village asset.
