Cruden Bay Harbour has just completed a restructuring of its trusteeship which has been implemented to cope with the changing complexion of the harbour’s use, and also the important issues of maintaining a vital village asset through structured management and planned maintenance. The Harbour was left in trust to the fishermen of Cruden Bay in the late 1920’s by the shipping magnate Sir John Ellerman who was the last owner to live in Slains Castle.
The new trustees are representatives of Cruden Bay Community Association and their role will be to oversee the setting up of a management body which will be tasked with the day to day running of the harbour.
Cruden Bay has always been a popular location for sea-
The new Trustees are calling a Public Meeting on Monday 12th May at 8:00 pm in the Village Hall to explain the way that the new structure will look, and also to facilitate the setting up of a management body. Applications are invited from any individuals who may be interested in becoming involved in the management body which will comprise of 9 individuals, excluding the Trustees. Should a sufficient number of applications be submitted prior to the meeting, it may be possible to constitute the new management body on the night.
Applications for nomination can be found in various places, an online form, available on the Cruden Bay website which can also be completed online, as well as a version which can be printed and mailed to the Trustees prior to the Public Meeting. Copies will also be available from the Cruden Bay Library and Post Office.
If you feel you would like to be involved at this important time in the life of Cruden Bay Harbour, just fill in a form to declare your interest. In the event of more applications being submitted than places on the management body there will be an election to appoint members.
In the meanwhile certain administrative processes will continue, such as the issuing of applications for the allocation of berths. This is normally completed by this time, but as it would be one of the primary functions of the new management body, there is a need to see the management body formed first.
The Trustees hope that harbour users will appreciate the complexity of the restructuring programme and exercise a degree of patience whilst the legal process is completed.
